Each and every citizen pays his deepest gratitude for this day. For the coming generations, here is a brief sneak peek into the history of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

How It Started?

The Indo- Pak relations aren’t any more hidden thing. As far as this day is concerned, the war started somewhere between May and July of 1999, having Jammu and Kashmir’s Kargil district as the initiating point. Thus, the name comes out to be Kargil Vijay Diwas. When it comes to the reason behind the war, it is said due to conflict orchestrated by the then Pakistan army chief General Pervez Musharraf. The infiltration of both Pakistani troops and terrorists into Indian Territory made the conditions worse.

It was the Indian Army to ascertain the points of incursion and initiate with “Operation Vijay”.

How It Conclude?

On the good day of July 26, 1999, Army declared the mission and now it is celebrated annually as Vijay Diwas. But it wasn’t an easy win. Reason being the Pakistani soldiers and terrorists had positioned themselves at higher altitudes. They were at an advantage of firing down at advancing Indian troops. Do you Pakistan shot down two Indian fighter jets during the operation?

Moreover, the official death toll on the Indian side was more than 500, which is really a big number! So, remembering the victory of our Nation and our Brave Soldiers, I feel proud to be an Indian.
